In the twenty or so years I have been collecting reels (mainly Hardy) it has always been a mystery to me why more collectors do not collect Silex reels! They are far more interesting and intricate than any other reels that Hardy have produced and the variations are endless. I have Silex reels on my desk and all over my den, and I never grow tired of picking them up and examining them, if you compare them with a Hardy Perfect or St John or St George there is no contest, Silex’s win hands down every time! What seems to be regularly overlooked is that they are not just bait casting reels but can also be perfectly used as Fly and centre pin reels.
