Description

New for 2025, Jeroen is now proud to introduce a small range of handmade leather rod tubes, crafted to fit either 7’6″ or 8′ rods. Made from high-quality saddle leather, they are beautifully sewn with care and attention to detail. Each tube is built around a sturdy PVC core and finished with wool padding in the ends for added protection.

These are honest, well-made pieces—designed to complement the craftsmanship of the rods they hold.

About the Maker – Jeroen “Vanwick” van Wijk
From an early age, Jeroen van Wijk was captivated by the world of fishing. What began as childhood curiosity—making floats from cork and rods from twigs—grew into a lifelong passion for both angling and traditional tackle-making.

At 17, he built his first split cane fly rod, inspired by a fellow fisherman and the timeless beauty of handmade tackle. In 1999, after years of hands-on learning, he completed his first fully self-built split cane rod—and has been refining his craft ever since.

Influenced by the charm and philosophy of anglers like Chris Yates, Jeroen’s approach is rooted in tradition, precision, and feel. His rods are based on proven progressive tapers, featuring light tips, subtle swelled butts, and a smooth, accurate action. Each is whipped with Pearsall’s pure silk and finished with elegant, transparent varnish—often in a richly flamed finish he particularly favours.

Now in partnership with Vintage Fishing Tackle, Jeroen is proud to offer his rods to a wider audience. Every rod is made with care, patience, and a deep respect for the craft—designed to be fished, admired, and passed down.
