Company founder Adam Rawson has been fishing from a young age due to his father’s own love for the sport. In fact, his earliest fishing memories are of using a garden cane whipped with a length of 10lb monofilament to catch Gobies, Blennies and if he was really lucky, Scorpionfish in the rockpools of the Cornish coast.
As he grew older, Adam discovered the joys of using centrepins and old cane rods made by the likes of Allcocks and Hardy, etc and he never looked back. Although carbon & fiberglass rods may weigh less, the action and aesthetics of bamboo just amplified the joys of his time spent at the river.
Adam began to restore some of the old cane rods he had acquired from auctions and his passion for the process grew. Even so, it wasn’t until Adam began fly fishing small streams for wild brown trout that he had seriously thought about building his own rods. With the help of Ben Perrin, slowly they began to gather the tools and equipment needed and for 8 years they built bamboo rods under the name Rawson & Perrin, before Ben left and the company was rebranded to Rawson Fishing in 2018.
With rivers such as the Bristol Avon, the Wye, and countless tributaries and streams within a short drive, Adam had the perfect testing grounds.
The resulting techniques and tapers he has developed over the years makes for a stunning spectacle of piscatorial perfection.
