In beautifully restored condition, this 10ft two-piece split cane Avon rod, originally from a Bob Southwell blank and constructed in 1957, was selected by legendary angler Chris Yates as one of the featured lots in a charity auction supporting Scotty’s Little Soldiers—a charity helping bereaved children of military families.
The rod was fully restored by J.A. Savory, carefully stripped back and re-dressed using the finest silk whippings, then finished to a rich semi-gloss sheen. It now stands as a stunning example of classic Avon rod design—elegant, flowing, and perfectly balanced.
Chris Yates once described the action of an Avon rod as “lissom”—and this rod is no exception. Graceful yet deceptively powerful, it offers a timeless feel that’s equally at home on a quiet riverbank or stillwater.
